How long is a laptop battery supposed to last ?????

I bought a Refurbished Apple Macbook pro in August ( 3 months ago) and after I run it on Apple Laptop Battery for 10-20 min it just dies? What should I do I have never had a laptop, but 3 months and a new Laptop Battery such as Toshiba Laptop Battery or Sony Laptop Battery?
